Research and Data

The Research and Data tab brings together science, data, and funding opportunities related to MSX, Dermo, and broader shellfish health in Atlantic Canada. This page aims to support industry, researchers, regulators, and other sector partners by improving access to relevant information in one centralized location.

WHat You Will Find Here

  • Project / Initiative Inventory: A comprehensive inventory of current, completed, and proposed projects related to MSX and Dermo in Atlantic Canada.
  • External Data Resources: A collection of links to external data sets and platforms relevant to shellfish health management and shellfish production in Atlantic Canada.
  • Funding Programs & Opportunities:: A regularly updated list of relevant funding programs and any calls for proposals.
  • Contribute to the Hub: How to contribute to the hub.

Project / Initiative Inventory

The Project / Initiative Inventory provides a centralized view of work underway to better understand, monitor, and manage MSX (Haplosporidium nelsoni) and Dermo (Perkinsus marinus) in the Atlantic Canadian oyster industry. It is designed to help industry members, researchers, regulators, and other stakeholders stay informed, explore ongoing efforts, and identify opportunities for collaboration. The inventory includes both research projects and support initiatives (i.e., non-research activities that build capacity for disease prevention, detection, monitoring, and response, including training, surveillance programs, equipment investments, and coordination efforts) with a clear connection to MSX and Dermo in Atlantic Canada.

How it works

Summary table

The main Research tab features a summary table that provides a high-level overview of each entry, including:

  • Title
  • Lead Organization
  • Focus area(s)
  • Status

Users can browse the full list or apply filters to quickly identify relevant work, explore who is leading it, and understand whether a project or initiative is ongoing, proposed, or complete.

Filtering

The inventory is filterable, allowing users to refine results by:

-Focus area

  • Project or Initiative Status
  • Lead Organization

Filtering is as simple as selecting the relevant options from the dropdown menus above the summary table.

Accessing more information

Accessing more information on a specific project or support initiative is easy – simply select the entry from the table to open a dedicated page with additional details including:

  • A description of the work
  • Partner organizations involved, including the funding organization
  • The disease(s) studied (where specified)
  • The species studied (where specified)
  • A map of sampling or fieldwork locations (where applicable)
  • Project or initiative updates

External Data Resources

The External Data Resources section provides a list of datasets relevant to understanding and managing shellfish health production in Atlantic Canada. It is designed for industry members, researchers, regulators, and other stakeholders looking to access data that supports analysis, decision-making, and ongoing research.

What's Available

This section includes links to external datasets from a range of trusted sources. These include:

  • Shellfish health monitoring data
  • Environmental and oceanographic data
  • Aquaculture and fisheries statistics
  • Aquatic Invasive Species data and resources
  • Other relevant datasets

How it works

The main page features a summary table that provides key information on each dataset including:

  • Resource (i.e., the name of the dataset)
  • Area (i.e., the relevant province or geographic area)
  • Category (e.g., Shellfish Health Monitoring, etc.)
  • Year (i.e., the most recent year the dataset was updated)

Filtering
